Gavin Newsom’s decision to lend 500 state-owned ventilators to New York and other coronavirus hot spots outside the state caught some local California officials off guard, particularly in Riverside County where health officials have been scrambling to acquire the critically needed medical equipment.

WASHINGTON (Press Release) — U.S. Department of the Interior Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Douglas W. Domenech applauded the Joint Economic Management Committee or JEMCO for its quick review and decision to allocate up to $7,000,000 from prior-year unexpended Compact of Free Association funding to provide emergency support to the Federated States of Micronesia to address coronavirus disease 2019 health-related needs. The JEMCO approved the Compact allocation in connection with the FSM government’s Covid-19 Response Framework and Budget. Funds provided to Yap, Chuuk, and Kosrae States will be used to strengthen hospital and quarantine infrastructure and support outreach by health personnel to the outer islands of Yap and Chuuk during this global Covid-19 pandemic.

Domenech announced a final award of $11,833,000 to the American Samoa government under the American Samoa Government Operations grant for fiscal year 2020. These funds provide critical support to the hospital, the community college, and the judicial system in the territory.
