Motheread/Fatheread CNMI conducts certified teacher’s meeting and professional development on Rota

(Press Release) — The Northern Marianas Humanities Council’s Motheread/Fatheread  CNMI, a CNMI grassroots family literacy program, conducted a certified teacher’s  meeting and professional development on  Rota on July 16, 2020.

The meeting was attended by certified teachers from Motheread/Fatheread CNMI from 2010, 2016 and 2019 cohort.

Assistant Coordinator Celina Foreman conducted a Children’s Story Hour session with the group and distributed learning packages for certified teachers to conduct their own sessions via zoom.

Special guests from the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library included systems librarian Omar T. Manacop, who shared “How to Access Baker and Taylor’s Axis 360” for free e-books online; Martin Naputi, vice president of Friends of the JKPL, who shared about “ Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library”; and Erlinda C. Naputi, Certified Teacher and President of the Pacific Islands Association of Libraries, Archives and Museums who shared information about “PIALA and literacy partnership opportunities.”

A big shout out to the certified teachers who were able to attend the meeting:  Laura Manglona,  Vernon-Lee Inos Manglona,  Ivan Mereb Jr., Celina Foreman, Erlinda C. Naputi, and Beth Demapan (virtual). Certified teachers were equipped with program information updates and opportunities to conduct sessions for their community.

Motheread/Fatheread CNMI was created in 1998 by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council to help families routinely use reading and storytelling as a medium for enhancing literacy in their homes.
