(JKPL) — First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries of all types across the country each April. The original theme for our 2020 National Library Week, “Find Your Place at the Library,” was chosen months ago before the emergence of a global pandemic would force libraries to close their buildings. In response to our rapidly-changing times, our national theme was revised to “Find the Library at Your Place” to bring attention to we are open virtually, offering the electronic services and digital content our community needs now more than ever.

This week, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library invites all community members to find the library at their place by visiting our website www.cnmilib.org and like/follow the Joeten- Kiyu Public Library on Facebook and Instagram @joetenkiyupubliclibrary to access our host of virtual services and resources. While the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library’s physical spaces may be temporarily closed due to Covid-19, the public can access information from our online presence and discover free e-books, workout classes, health and wellness information, public notices, educational resources and so much more — all from home.

In times of crisis, libraries respond to their community’s needs in innovative and inspiring ways. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, libraries of all types are continuing to make a difference in people’s lives by providing electronic learning resources, including virtual homework help, online crafting and DIY sessions as well as information about keeping your family well and safe. At the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, there are virtual programs and contests that will be made available to the public in celebration of National Library Week and School Library Month beginning April 19, 2020 such as: access to free e-books and audio books, virtual storytime, local celebrity read alouds, bedtime storytime, online cultural corner, sign up for a Motheread/Fatheread CNMI class for the family, Teen Trivia contests, Find the Library at Your Place Challenge, I Love Joeten-Kiyu Public Library Photo Contest, I Love the Bookmobile Photo Contest, “Why I Love the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library” Writing Contest, “Why I Love the Bookmobile” Writing Contest, free book giveaways, subscribe to our library e-newsletter, and so much more!
