Blue Hauz’s defensive efforts were evident in the opening quarter as Bruce Berline made his presence known, denying any easy shots while dominating the board to create second chance buckets for his team. Diaz took advantage of each successful stop with his ability to finish at the rim collecting 10 points while Esdrelon, and Berline chipped in a few more points to give their team double-digit control, 31-14.

Even with Diaz out of commission, the rest of Blue Hauz lineup kept the fire burning.

The Islanders, for their part, could not get themselves out of a scoring rut, but Mostales and Ritual managed to contribute 10 points. Their team’s biggest run came during the final quarter where Ritual caught on fire sinking two triples while Umali, Saplan and Sedillo joined the run, but it was still not enough to erase the deficit.

Blue Hauz’s Berline stayed efficient inside the paint while Esdrelon was just as productive as their team demolished Islander Rent A Car, 95-60.

Gilas Batang 72, Pacific Marine 69

Gilas Batang also joined the winners’ circle after defeating Pacific Marine in a close fight.

It was a seesaw battle with Pacific Marine taking the lead at first. Attinen was nearly unstoppable as he cooked up 10 points in the opening quarter. With the help of Isip’s two buckets from beyond the arc, Pacific Marine led as much as seven points. Pacific Marine did not stop there as Sorima and Isip joined the onslaught.

However, after the halftime break, Gilas Batang’s players suddenly found their second wind.

Tibayan started off the run with three consecutive makes as the rest of his team chipped in a bucket each to take the lead for first time. And thanks to their defense, they held Pacific Marine down to single-digit scoring.

Pacific Marine’s Attinen tried to take matters into his own hands, but Gilas Batang’s players held their ground long enough to secure the win, 72-69.
