THE 670 Sonics remain on top of the food chain in the U18 Boys Division of the 2019 TanHoldings Christmas Basketball Tournament after routing Ol’Aces 3, 60-45 on Monday at the TSL Sports Complex.

At first, the Sonics had to fight for control as Ol’Aces 3 had an answer for nearly every shot by the Sonics. But teamwork kept the Sonics ahead as their ball movement opened up a variety of scoring opportunities with John Carvana, Jadiael Manalo, Rafael Ordona and Adi Ordona contributing a bucket each. The Ol’Aces, on the other hand, were led by Craig Padayao who sank two triples while Antoni Ogumoro put in five points to keep their team within striking distance, 23-28.

But after the halftime break the Sonics flipped the script with more offensive pressure to pull away and widen the lead. This time it was Khristian Itaas and his ability to drive and finish at the rim that wreaked havoc with seven points. Even after the Ol’Aces closed the driving lanes, Itaas still posed a threat from beyond the arc, sinking a triple to keep his defenders on their toes.

The Ol’Aces tried to stay alive but only Padayao and Ogumoro could stay consistent as the deficit continued to grow, resulting in a Sonics win, 60-45.

Rollers 3 no match for Rollers 2

Rollers 2 also tasted victory as they pummeled their brethren team, Rollers 3.

Koboy Mizutani stole the show as he singlehandedly outscored Rollers 3 with 22 points in just the first half.

The players of Rollers 3 started to find their pace in the second half as Gerald Mamis and Mark Laitan paired up for back-to-back buckets, but in the end, they could not overcome Rollers 2’s productivity as TJ Factor, Eli Garcia and Mamis took over for a double-digit victory, 76-33.
