OVER the weekend, BBJ Athletics Rise N Grind CNMI Inc. held a two-day basketball skills and character-building clinic for 42 youths at the TSL Sports Complex.

The coaches and presenters were Jerry Diaz, Walter Mendez, Kelvin Fitial, Alex Lauron, Dexter Tenorio, Maverick Itibus, Chris Sablan, Ambrose Ogumoro, Leanna Borja, Marlon Cabrera, Carldrine Santos, Jacob Villagomez and Rodrigo Ada.

Their goal was to educate, empower and inspire the youth so they can build a positive attitude, mindset, and awareness that will hopefully develop into daily healthy habits through the sport of basketball.

The clinic encouraged participants to regularly practice to improve their skills and to avoid frustration and physical injuries during competition. They learned that it was OK to make mistakes. In addition, they learned how to make adjustments and share a positive attitude with their peers.

Also discussed was valuable information regarding safety, breathing techniques, warming up, fitness training, specific skills training and the importance of proper nutrition before, during, and after playing any sport.

The BBJ team is grateful to the TSL Foundation for providing a venue for the basketball clinic; and to Yaong Corporation for the fruits and refreshments during the two-day event.

Jerry Diaz said they are also thankful to the Hoopaholics 670 basketball players and Rufino Aguon, former CNMI basketball coach, for sharing their time, and to the other generous sponsors: IT&E, Ali’i, Blue Haus, Island Apparel, Saipan Brewing Company, Saipan Fresh Market, McDonald’s, YCO Corporation, Latte Marine Construction, the Precinct 3 representatives and family members.
