JOEY Dela Cruz locked in his spot among the aces of the Marianas Golf Association after accumulating the next best net score on Saturday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Dela Cruz was named August Ace of the Month, but it was Chris Leon Guerrero who finished first.

Leon Guerrero had an exceptional performance despite a rough start in the front nine. He managed to keep an average pace, ending with a score of 47 to stay ahead of most of the competition. He then improved his swing during the back nine to score 40, which put him well ahead of the rest as he gathered a gross total of 87. With a handicap of 24, Leon Guerrero finished the day on top with a net total of 63.

But Leon Guerrero topped the ace tournament in June and so the title was awarded to Dela Cruz who finished second in the August event. Dela Cruz ended the front nine with a score of 40 and completed the back nine with 36 for a gross of 76. With a handicap of  11, his net total of 65 was the second best score in the tournament.

Filling up the top 3 was Sebastian Camacho who gathered a net total of 68. The day was looking bright for him as he closed both the front and back nines with a score of 37 each for a gross of 74. But with a handicap of 6, he had to settle for third place.

Twenty-four players and a special guest — Vicente “Guelo” Rosario of Guam — participated in the ace tournament this month. Rosario used a Chamorro sling and a slingstone shaped as a golf ball. He was on Saipan to participate in the reinterment ceremony for the ancestral remains that were reburied in Chalan Kanoa last week.

MGA on Saturday also welcomed John Terlaje and Patrick Guerrero to the club.
