THE Northern Marianas National Paddle Sports Federation looks forward to competing in future regional events.

Although the Pacific Mini Games have been postponed, the federation is already preparing for other future competitions. “We will compete in the 2022 Micronesian Games in the Marshall Islands and in the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands,” federation president Justin Andrew said.

However, amid the Covid-19 lockdown, the members of the paddling community, like other athletes, are finding it hard to train for future competitions. “Social distancing is making it hard for our canoe clubs and their teams to paddle,” Andrew said. “The island community will need time to get back to some form of normalcy when we can finally resume our normal routines,” he added.

On behalf of the federation, he said, “I would like to thank all the front liners of the healthcare corporation, the governor’s task force, the public safety personnel, first responders, and all the essential businesses and their personnel as well as our leadership.”

Andrew said the federation also extends its appreciation to all its member clubs and their paddlers for adhering to all the Covid-19 precautionary measures. “The federation would like to encourage all its members to continue to remain active and in shape,” he added.
