An infantryman, De Guzman has learned many skills that are applicable to his daily life, including sports. “Being an infantryman has helped me grow as a person as well as an athlete by strengthening and improving my endurance, discipline, and dedication,” he told Variety.

Because of Covid-19, people around the world are forced to stay indoors, but De Guzman said he chose to remain positive and to stay fit.

“I try to make the most out of the lockdown and self-quarantine,” he said. “I make sure I dedicate each day to running on the pathway.”

De Guzman said he enjoys family time during the lockdown. “Spending more time with family helps us cope with the situation. It has taught me to appreciate the people around me. However, I do miss going out and competing in a basketball league as well as training for it.”

He added, “But even if I miss basketball so much, health is important and we should all practice social distancing and personal hygiene. Basketball can wait.”
