NMI'S men's national soccer team member Enrico Del Rosario was among the local residents who had to undergo self-quarantine for 14 days after returning to the island from the mainland U.S. on March 21.

“Majority of my time was spent doing online classes and home workouts to stay fit,” he said. “Since my first year of study in the mainland, I always make sure that I come back home for summer and spend it with my family. I usually come home before Mother’s Day, but when our school announced that they would cancel the in-person classes and just do online classes, I booked my flight right away.”

He said he “wasn’t thrilled with the thought of being stuck inside the house for two weeks, but I understood why I had to do it, and it all worked out for me. I was away for almost one year and spending time with family and eating mom’s home cooked meals is quite a treat."

Del Rosario will graduate in the fall of 2020 with a major in psychology and a minor in sociology from Northern Kentucky University.

“We are not sure yet as to what will happen by then, but we’re truly hoping that they will hold commencement exercises for all the graduates,” he said. “After graduation I am looking at getting my master’s degree and see if I will still be eligible to play, but I am definitely going to continue playing soccer. I will cross the bridge when I get there.”

Before Del Rosario came back home, he started training for the spring season with his college team, the Northern Kentucky University FC. He also plays in the Gotham Soccer League in Cincinnati.

While on island, Del Rosario said, “I’m trying to keep myself busy with training for the NMI men’s national team.”
