Joe Kamikaze Camacho, who represents the NMI golf group in the Northern Marianas Sports Association, said there will be a total of seven tryouts in selecting the NMI golf teams for men and women. Each team will comprise of two senior golfers and two junior golfers, plus three alternates.

Camacho said the Pacific Mini Games wants to promote junior golf.

The first two tryouts will be held on April 11 and April 25.

There will be two tryouts in May, two in June and one in July.

Camacho said the golf federation wants to form the teams as early as possible so the players can have at least one year to prepare for one of the region’s biggest sports events.

Players have to be U.S. citizens in order to qualify, Camacho added.

Players will also have to walk during the tryouts. There will be no carts, he said, because that’s how the golf tournament will be played in the Pacific Mini Games.

The venue for the Pacific Mini Games’ golf event will the LaoLao West Course.
