MHS girls, KHS boys on a roll in canoe race

THE boys of Kagman High School and the girls of Marianas High School swept all races in their respective divisions on Saturday in the PSS Interscholastic Outrigger Canoe Race at Kilili Beach in Oleai.

The MHS girls bested Kagman High School and Saipan Southern High School. In the first round of the 500m race, the MHS girls made every second count as they paddled their way to finish first just a few seconds earlier than SSHS, 3:19:44. SSHS clocked in at 3:23:52 while KHS came in third at 3:24:10.

In the finale of the 500m race, the MHS girls left their opponents behind and clocked at 3:27:49. KHS was second at 3:28:02 while SSHS was third at 3:32:30.

The MHS girls were likewise dominant in the 1000m course, clocking in at 7:15:16. SSHS was second at 7:25:21 while KHS came in at third, 7:28:03.

In the final 1000m race, the MHS girls remained unbeatable, finishing first at 7:25:16; SSHS was second, 7:37:17; and KHS third, 7:38:13.

In the boys division of the 500m and 1000m races, KHS was on top, clocking 2:59:73 in the 500m race and 6:21:15 in the 1000m race. MHS was disqualified due to a lack of team members, allowing SSHS to finish second in the 500m and 1000m races, clocking at 3:05:92 and 6:25:16.

In the final round, KHS was first in the 500m and 1000m races, clocking 3:01:22 and 6:21:15, while SSHS was second, coming in at 3:15:68 and 6:40:79.

KHS’ mixed paddling team, for its part, bested MHS and SSHS in the preliminaries and final races. In the first round of the 500m and 1000m races, KHS clocked in at 3:10:75 and 6:49:31. MHS was second in the 500m with a time of 3:19:80 while SSHS was third, 3:20:12. SSHS came in second in the 1000m, clocking 6:56:50, while MHS was third with a time of 6:57:69.

In the final race of the mixed division, KHS ranked first in 500m and 1000m with a time of 3:23:22 and 6:51:92. SSHS finished second with a time of 3:14:57 in the 500m race while MHS was third, 3:23:22. But MHS placed second in the1000m race, clocking at 6:51:92, while SSHS was third, 6:56:65.

The division championships will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at Kilili Beach in Oleai.
