KELVIN “Big Hit” Fitial now has the opportunity to share the knowledge he has acquired throughout his years as an MMA fighter. He has followed the footsteps of his trainer and mentor Jerry Diaz by acquiring certification as an international certified personal trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Fitial said he always wanted to be a trainer and not just the trainee. “It took me years to really understand what it means to be a personal trainer,” he told Variety. But it only took him nearly a year to get certified.

To understand human anatomy and how the body works and performs, he read books and trained under Jerry Diaz and the BBJ Athletics Team for five years. He also took classes online and reviewed all the modules to prepare for a 100-question examination.

“I wanted to become a personal trainer because of my MMA fights,” said Fitial. “My two brothers, James Lee and Jerry Diaz, helped paved the way for all of us.”

Fitial now teaches “boxercise” every Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Gold’s Gym.

“Now that I’m a personal trainer I want to help others reach their fitness goals,” he said. “You will see some changes in the future because I’m a different person as a personal trainer.”

Fitial said he also wants to “thank my wife and family for all their support through all these years.”
