IN the words of Stacy Yvonne Abrams, “silence damns us all” if we don’t protest and speak out against the injustices in our community and nation.

As Dr. King also said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” including the CNMI. The main reasons for me starting this Epitaph was the injustices within our Government and the need to speak-out to educate the People on a continuous basis as one letter to editor is soon forgotten but they won’t forget all these Epitaphs.

More importantly about silence is the fact that those who ARE on Social Media and those who CAN afford a newspaper need to be outspoken with their neighbors and within their villages so your fellow citizens can also be educated on the adversities WE as a People face and what needs to be done to fix our problems starting with VOTING for Democrats.  We the People can’t just read something we KNOW is important in the news about our Government and just keep it to ourselves. WE can’t just see something on our Facebook page and forwarded it thinking that is enough when there are literally THOUSANDS who can’t afford a phone, a computer and are not even on Facebook — we must all speak-up & OUT to all —  “spread the WORD” (the news) as we say in my culture.  In fact, each citizen has the fiduciary duty as a citizen to be “informed & active” like our founding fathers expected which are the two keys for opening the doors to good and responsive Government to the needs and desires OF the People.  Silence is NOT truly golden when it’s in response to the evil and injustices of our Government. “Evil and corruption within our Government can only continue to exist when good women/men do or say nothing,” as speaking-up and OUT to all is what is needed to counter the evil and corruption we have endured for the past two decades in the CNMI. I am like the protesters for the RESPECT of ALL People and their RIGHTS as I have seen ENOUGH with the GOP in charge of the CNMI and I pray that the majority of voters feel the same darn way!

I’m sure there are many voters who are upset at many things this Torres Administration have done and failed to do but there hasn’t been a lot of speaking-out in the news.  This must change in the CNMI especially whenever someone calls for a protest and you KNOW they are RIGHT to protest JOIN them as it will even help YOU in the long run. For example, some are saying why are we protesting in the CNMI about George Floyd. But they don’t get it that locals are not white so all of the local adults and youth on the mainland could have easily been a George Floyd or Briana Taylor who was shot in her bed 18 times by police and nothing was done or any of the other Blacks who were wrongfully killed and nothing was done to the white police killers.  You can believe that if were Black cops killing white people the story line would be the same but justice would be much faster and far harsher as history has already proven.

But protesting is not all about policing as there are many reasons for people to speak-up and protest which is what I have been doing for over two decades. I have been speaking up but the powers that be don’t want to listen and I end up saying I Told You So as a reminder, which is virtually all I can do alone. WE the People (voters) need to start helping each other MORE when it comes to speaking up because our silence really damns us all and the GOP knows that our silence is actually a true sign of weakness. The “PASS WORD in the protests now is VOTE” as that is OUT best tool for creating a better Government so please vote Democrat in the CNMI this time around if you truly want to end the corruption in our Government.
