(Press Release) — James Ada, president of the CNMI Republican Party, released the following statement on behalf of the organization:

“As we begin the New Year, the CNMI Republican Party looks forward to another year of success and progress for our islands.

“The CNMI Republican Party, its leadership, members and its thousands of supporters across the CNMI and the world, stand behind our Governor, Ralph DLG Torres, against the baseless attacks he has received over the course of the last trying months.

“The Minority in the Legislature, still reeling from a devastating loss in the last election, have put forward positions that are disrespectful to our voters and our democratic system.

“The CNMI Republican Party and our elected members, under the leadership of Speaker BJ Attao and Senate President Victor Hocog, believe any suggestion of impeachment of Gov. Ralph Torres is simply political maneuvering and no infraction known to us has risen to the level of impeachment. The Republican Party stands firm in its position that any petty attempt at further action by the shrinking Minority will not be entertained.

“We trust that the voters in the CNMI are smarter than the Minority members would like to believe. Under Republican leadership, we have grown the economy, increased jobs, provided more opportunity and public services to our people.

“The Minority has only brought division and lies.

“The Commonwealth has long been a community built on the cultures of peace, respect and inafa’maolek. This year, the Republican Party stands united in its efforts to move forward for a better and stronger CNMI.”
