MAYOR David M. Apatang is hoping for a good New Year on Saipan.

In 2020, “the mayor’s office will continue its operation to deliver basic services to the community,” he said, adding that his office is responsible for administering several government programs and public services mandated by law.

His office, he said, also coordinates the implementation of various federal programs on island.

Apatang said his office will continue to help “develop and preserve a diverse community that [assists] everyone as a stakeholder in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment, where everyone has equal opportunities to grow, prosper, and enjoy peace and respect.”

The services and programs of the mayor’s office include granting marriage licenses, issuance of a municipal ID, the dog control program, the student exchange program, disaster recovery, secondary road repair, maintenance, improvement, debris clearing, community assistance, maintenance of various parks, and coordinating the annual Liberation Day festivities.

Apatang said the direct beneficiaries of these programs and services are residential property owners, homeowners, the school system, students, tourists, motorists, pedestrians, business establishments, and the CNMI government.

He said his office recently acquired a new roller compactor, a dump truck, and a hydro mower to better perform its work of assisting the community.

He said members of his field operations-plant nursery team are out every day to work on the island beautification project, and maintain the cleanliness of villages, parks, roadsides, and other community areas.
