THE Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality is inviting community members to join a beach cleanup this Saturday, Oct. 10.

Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to meet the BECQ representatives at the Garapan Fishing Base at 8 a.m., Saturday.

Participants will clean up the area from the Garapan Fishing Base to the Carolinian Utt from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

They will split into groups, break for drinks, and continue past 11:30 a.m. if needed.

“Come and join BECQ’s beach cleanup and ‘Pick It Up!’ Let us work together for the health of our coral reefs and cleanliness of our beaches for everyone to enjoy,” the bureau stated.

Last month, the BECQ Division of Coastal Resources Management hosted the 2020 International Coastal Cleanup, collecting over 9,000 pounds of trash.

BECQ said 75 locations across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota were adopted and cleaned, through the efforts of nearly 1,000 volunteers.

However, littering continues to be an issue on island.

For more information regarding the upcoming BECQ beach cleanup, contact Greg Reyes or Leonardo Sanchez at 664-8500/05.

All participants are encouraged to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
