THE Marianas Visitors Authority received $250,000 in hotel occupancy tax collections from the central government on Sept. 11, MVA Managing Director Priscilla M. Iakopo said Wednesday.

This year, she added, MVA collected a total of $5.1 million from Finance, but the amount represents the hotel occupancy tax collections for fiscal year 2019.

MVA has yet to collect $1 million from FY 2019, Iakopo said.

For fiscal year 2020, the central government owes MVA $6.6 million in hotel occupancy tax collections, she added.

MVA, for its part, owes $230,000 for its offshore marketing and promotions program, and $31,000 for operations and monthly recurring costs, she said.

“With no international flights, we’ve been cutting down drastically so most of the payables are for offshore [vendors],” she said.
