EDWIN Omar was arrested after hitting another man with a 2-by-4 piece of wood after an argument over a cell phone.

Omar, 34, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

The victim told police that he was asking Omar about the cell phone that he, the victim, bought for Omar, but which the victim had not seen for a couple of days.

The victim said he followed Omar when he walked away from him.

According to the victim, Omar ran to the back of a Laundromat and picked up a rock and acted like he was going to throw the rock at the victim.

Later Omar ran to another building where he picked up a 2-by-4 piece of wood that he used to hit the victim’s right back side and left arm, the victim said.

Omar, in an interview with the police, admitted that he picked up a rock, which he wanted to throw at the victim if he came any closer.

He also told police that he intended to use the 2-by-4 block of wood to knock the victim out so he would not be following him and asking about the cell phone.

Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo previously imposed a $10,000 cash bail on Omar.

On Thursday Judge Govendo granted Omar’s request to be released to a third-party custodian, his sister.

Assistant Public Defender Karie Comstock, who represents Omar, and Assistant Attorney General Erin Toolan, who appeared for the government, filed a stipulation to modify Omar’s bail to $10,000 unsecured bond, which Judge Govendo  granted.
