THE House Natural Resources Committee included the status of Hyatt Regency Saipan’s land lease extension on the agenda for a public hearing regarding the land lease deal between the CNMI government and D&W Saipan Inc.

The committee, chaired by Rep. Antonio Borja, scheduled a joint public hearing for Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. in the House chamber and invited members of the community to comment on the request of D&W Saipan Inc. for a 15-year extension of its land lease deal.

Its original 25-year lease agreement for public land in Gualo Rai took effect on Oct. 4, 1995.

D&W Saipan Inc., doing business as Highway Express, is a tire dealer and automotive repair shop.

The Hyatt land lease will expire in Dec. 2021.

The public hearing will be conducted jointly by the House Natural Resources Committee and the Senate Committee on Resources Economic Development & Programs chaired by Sen. Francisco M. Borja.

The House committee members earlier said that now is not the time to chase away hotel investors.
