TINIAN — Airman 1st Class Anthony Canlas once again sets another life milestone by graduating at the top of his class in technical school at Fort Eustis, Virginia. Tinian Jr./Sr. H.S. alumni Anthony Canlas is a Distinguished Honor Graduate in Air Force Technical School on December 18, 2019, four months after completing Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

With a GPA of 99.46 percent, Canlas received the title of Distinguished Honor Graduate of the UH-60 Helicopter Repairer course during a mass graduation of both Army and Air Force personnel. He also received a Certificate of Achievement from the 128th Aviation Brigade for his outstanding academic performance, and a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement from the Army Aviation Association. Moreover, he scored a 100 percent in 11 tests, thus earning him the Crew Chief Ace Award from the 362TRS Detachment 1 commander and course instructor team.

Canlas graduated from Tinian Junior/Senior High School last June, ranking at number 6 of his class and received the School Leadership Award. He was an active cadet in the JROTC Stallion Battalion and was the former S-2 officer of the JROTC program.

When asked about his Advanced Individual Training, he stated, “The four months of technical school was an excellent opportunity to get an education and training in an area that I was genuinely interested in — aircraft maintenance. I felt very fortunate to have been given the tools I needed to develop a specific skill set to pursue this interest. I’ll continue to aim for excellence as I work toward my goal of achieving a degree in Aeronautics.”

After graduating from technical school, Canlas will head out to Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, where he will be assigned as an H-60 Helicopter Mechanic/Crew Chief.

Hats off to you, Airman 1st Class Canlas! Congratulations on your well-deserved success! And congratulations to his proud parents as well, Alma and Rico Canlas. The Stallion Battalion is so pleased to see you accomplishing great things. May you continue to fly to greater heights and represent the island of Tinian.

Hooah!
