FAHIM Uddin of Saipan made it to the Boston University dean's list for his stellar academic coursework in June.

A former reporter of Saipan Tribune and Marianas Variety, Uddin is a junior student majoring in computer science.

"It finally worked out well because I’m building on my math and science skills to keep up with the intensive academics in the mainland," Uddin said. "A lot of self-studying was worth it in the end."

He said he plans “to get better with my time-management skills this year, and in math and science through self-study.”

An honor student at Marianas High School, Uddin was also a member of the Aeronautical Dolphins, the National Honor Society, the National Speech and Debate Association, and the MHS basketball  team.

A private institution, Boston University  is nonsectarian, but follows historical affiliation with the United Methodist church. It is considered one of the top 40 schools in the United States.

While on island and before he returns to Boston, Uddin is working at the Saipan mayor's office as a data scientist.

"I am very thankful to the mayor and the municipal government for allowing me to build my skills in programming structured or unstructured data," Uddin said.

He hopes to become a software developer and a data scientist after he graduates from college.
