THE Saipan mayor’s office has installed 50 concrete tables and benches in beach areas on island.

The project, which is part of the island beautification program, was initiated by the governor’s Office of Grants Management, Mayor David M. Apatang said.

It was the mayor’s office that provided the equipment to transport the tables and benches.

The mayor said they will install 50 more concrete tables and benches at parks and on beaches.

Apatang is hoping that members of the community will use them properly.

His special assistant, Henry Hofschneider, said Department of Corrections inmates built the tables and benches.

The mayor’s office, for its part, had to acquire a permit from the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality before the tables and benches could be installed.
