DESPITE testing positive for Covid-19, Guam Senator Wil Castro says he remains a Republican candidate for congressional delegate.

“I continue to work even while in isolation, and I remain committed to earning your vote to represent Guam in Congress,” he added in a statement.

On Aug. 14, after it was reported that a Guam legislative employee tested positive for Covid-19, Castro started to experience  two symptoms of the virus, namely, fever and body ache.

“I immediately self-isolated as a precaution,” he said.

On Aug., 18 Castro tested positive for the virus. The following day, however, he was no longer experiencing symptoms of the virus.

“I am in good health, but remain in isolation at home,” he added.

Castro assured his constituents that his office will continue providing services.

“As I have proven over the course of my service as your senator, I will continue to assist our people and remain accessible for as long as I am capable and without harm to our community,” Castro said.

“My condition precludes me from doing one thing and one thing only: interacting with other people in person until such time I am found to be Covid-19 free,” he said.

“This is where we make meaningful use of technology as we did in March during the first round of [Pandemic Condition of Readiness 1],” he added.

“We will commence virtual office updates in addition to answering forwarded calls and emails to the best of our ability.

“Although Covid-19 has affected traditional ways of campaigning it has not stopped our ability to serve our people.

“We remain committed to abiding by the laws and executive orders governing the pandemic.

“May God be with those who've been stricken by this terrible virus so that they may recover swiftly and fully. Prayers are offered up for our people in order that we may all emerge from these difficult times with our lives and livelihoods. I can empathize and do affirm my commitment to be with our people through this pandemic. Saina Ma’ase.”

Castro is an advocate of the “One Marianas” initiative that seeks to address food security, free trade, economic development, medical insurance coverage, cultural preservation and others issues relevant to Guam and the Northern Marianas.
