LEGISLATIVE Bureau employees did not receive a pay raise, LB Director Antonio Sablan said.

Variety obtained a copy of LB staff salaries indicating that its director is receiving $70,000 a year; the legal counsels of the House and the Senate are each getting $77,174 a year; the fiscal analyst, $77,174; the clerks of the House and the Senate, $56,000 each; the administrative officer, $48,683; the senior legislative assistant, $56,301; and machine operator, $44,112.

Sablan said these have been the salaries since fiscal year 2018.

He said the LB employees’ work hours were cut to 64 twice — following Super Typhoon Yutu and since the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was only late last month when the austerity measure was lifted at the LB, and that was because of the ongoing budget process and committee hearings, which require the LB assistance, Sablan said.

In addition, the LB has enough funds “to carry”  it to the end of the fiscal year, he said.

“Because we have enough funds to  carry us to the end of fiscal year, we lifted the austerity measure to assist in the ongoing budget process and special committee hearings that require extra work,” Sablan said.

“We’re trying to make sure that the committees can hold the hearings and the budget is passed to avoid a government shutdown,” he added.

The current fiscal year ends on Sept. 30, 2020.
