Saipan Unity Lions Club officers inducted

ALICIA “Alice” Barbo was inducted as the new president of the Saipan Unity Lions Club on Saturday at the Rendezvous Restaurant of Saipan Vegas Resort.

Also inducted were Yolanda “Yho” Villavicencio, first vice president; Lindie Mae Moleno, second vice president; Elizabeth “Beth Escober, Lions Club International Foundation coordinator; Marilyn Parnes, secretary; Joy Cause, assistant secretary; Mary Ann “Anne” David, treasurer; Hermilina “Joy” Tanghal, assistant treasurer; Jose Pepito “Joe” Digno, membership chair; Caroline “Carol” Tamparong, service chair; Eva Cuevas, marketing and communications; Elmera “Mher” Lacap, auditor; Wilma “Tess” Amog, assistant auditor; Gil Anonuevo, safety officer; Elsa “Lucky” Bangilan, Lion tamer; Irene Mae Alegre, tail twister; board members Saturnino  “Atoy” Banting, Wilfredo “Willy” Barbo, Agripino “Argie” Buensalido, Lucia “Lucy” Buensalido, and Sancho “Boyet” Escober.

In her remarks, Barbo said she hopes to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the people in the community; to promote the principles of good government and good citizenship; and to help volunteers meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding.

“I will strive in every way to be worthy of your confidence and to fulfill my duties the best I can,” she said.

Immediate past president  Elizabeth Escober said the Saipan Unity Lions Club is now 28 years old.

“We are making history, and our officers and members are fired up with so much enthusiasm and determination,” she added.

On behalf of the Iloilo Fort San Pedro Lions Club in the central Philippines through the club president Rose Cabucos, past district governor of District 301 Felipe C. Lim congratulated the officers of the Saipan Unity Lions Club.

“We Lions will always rise to sustain, and with vigor to serve our constituents,” Lim added.

In her remarks, Barbo recognized honorary member Vice Venus, associate member Daisy Sablan and the other club members:  Sharmaine Casquero, Benjamin “Benjie” Cruz, Lhita Cuevas, Aida Gagaring, Gloria Pagarao, Jerry Pagarao, Orlie Ebuen, Marie Candado, Emeralyn “Lyn” Maglanque, Annibelle Lopena, John Bandales, Soledad “Solly” Cruz, Jeffrey “Jeff” Riman, Analiza Riman, Elena “Elle” Soll, Ana Lisa Gallego, Birhen Martinez, Bong Martinez, Gloria Rivada, and Juliebert Salina.

Also inducted were the officers of the Saipan Teen Unity Club: Victoria Ancheta, president; Angel Lou Buensalido, vice president; Jane Nicole Mozunder, secretary; Kaitlyn Punzalan, Jonas Cabang, historian; and Camille Sablan, public relations officer.

The teen club members are Nhicole Valiente, JM Miguel, Stephanie Dela Cruz, Naveen Lucenara, Kriselle Drilon, Lyndon Digno, Elisha Joy Lacap, Hannah Lacap, Abegail Amog, Adriana Tamparong, Trixia Jhoanne Singca, Juliana Vergara, Tan Sarawoot Sukanpong, Ashley Sablan, Monique Duenas and Arman Kaito Rechuber.

During the ceremony, region chair Aldred Cabael installed Arceli Legaspi, president of the Saipan Centennial Lions Club, as zone 1 chair, and Eden Mercado, president of Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club, as zone 2 chair.

For her part, immediate past region chair Annamae Adaza presented a special award to Atoy Banting as a Melvin Jones Fellow.

Banting along with Wilfredo Barbo, Alice Barbo, Lucy Buensalido and Pepito Bigno also received the Diamond Centennial Award for their recruitment efforts and for helping organize a new club.

Among the Lions’ special guests were Honorary Philippine Consul to the CNMI Glicerio “Eli” Arago, Skymark Airlines general manager for the Pacific region international flight preparation office Daisy Sablan and Marianas Visitors Authority community projects manager Martin Duenas.

The other Lions Clubs on Saipan are  the Saipan Alliance Lions Club, the Saipan Natibu Lions Club, the Saipan Marianas Lions Club and the Saipan Pacific Lions Club.
