THE Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force on Thursday officially opened the former Mariana Resort in Marpi as a government-designated quarantine site.

Task force chairman Warren Villagomez said 38 rooms are being utilized by 60 individuals at the former hotel.

He said Kanoa Resort in Chalan Kanoa will also continue to be a quarantine isolation site for incoming passengers.

With United Airlines inbound flights arriving on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, Villagomez expects a “spillover” and hence the need for another isolation site.

For her part, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Chief Executive Officer Esther Muna warned those who violate home-quarantine orders.

“Just because you're released to your home does not mean that you go out to the bars. We will use the task force or call the police to ensure that you follow quarantine orders. If you cannot follow quarantine orders at home, we will continue to quarantine you at Kanoa Resort or Mariana Resort,” she said.

Home quarantines will be discontinued if there are violations, she added.

Muna said many returning resident passengers complain whenever they are required to undergo quarantine. “But we are trying to protect our borders and our people. We cannot be complacent. We need to do our due diligence to ensure that our community is safe.”

She noted that the recent positive cases recorded are inbound passengers.

For Monday’s flight, she said, there were over 100 passengers and only five were allowed to self-quarantine.

She said these are individuals who have the ability to separate themselves from other people.

Muna said the task force and CHCC will continue to enforce the protocols, including quarantine and two tests for Covid-19.
