GERALD Muna’s home in Koblerville received the first street number on island on Monday from the Saipan mayor’s office.

Janice Celis, a staff member of the newly created street naming and addressing division of the mayor’s office, was accompanied by Frank Camacho of HK Pangelinan & Associates, contractor of the project, during the distribution of the home numbers.

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang is asking community members to welcome the street-numbering team, which is visiting  homes as well as commercial and non-commercial buildings to deliver their home or building number.

The success of the  project depends on public cooperation, he added.

“Twenty-two years since streets in Saipan were identified by names, homes and buildings in Saipan will soon be numbered, as today marks the beginning of an important public project that will complete the Saipan street naming and numbering system,” Apatang said on Monday.

The mayor said it will take at least a year for all homes and buildings to be numbered if the street-numbering team finds homeowners and owners of commercial and non-commercial buildings during onsite visits.

“There will be occasions when no one would be home and our team would have to return to the site later in the day or week,” the mayor said.
