I-ZONE, a cellphone and gadget store on Beach Road in Chalan Kanoa, was robbed Saturday evening by a masked, knife-wielding man who took more than a thousand dollars in cash and two brand new iPhones.

Tom Gu, the store manager, told Variety that the perpetrator was holding a foot-long sashimi knife and demanded  that Gu and his wife  open the cash register.

Gu said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m., Saturday.

The robber is about 30 years old, Gu said, adding that community members should be on the lookout for a person selling an iPhone.

“Don’t just buy, check the information about the phone first,” he said, adding that the stolen phones are already locked. “They are useless, and if someone is selling them to you please immediately call the police,” he said.

Footage from the surveillance video of the robbery incident has been posted on social media showing Gu and his wife being held at knifepoint by a robber who was shouting at them to open the cash register.

Despite the incident, Gu said they will continue to operate Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

If you have information about the stolen phones and the robber, please call the police immediately, Gu said.

As of press time Sunday, the Department of Public Safety had not issued an official statement regarding the robbery.
