ROTA Mayor Efraim Atalig said the islands are again facing a year of adversity and uncertainty due to the Covid-10 pandemic, but these will not hamper the local people’s spirit.

“As a community of resiliency we can turn the tide by changing our course,” he said in his Liberation Day message.

The mayor said the Fourth of July  celebration will always remind them of the hardship of their ancestors who experienced war.

“But their sacrifices have paved the way for our people today to enjoy the liberation of our great Commonwealth and the rights and freedoms guaranteed to us by the great United States of America,” Atalig said.

He noted that this year’s Liberation Day theme, “Strength in Unity – Marianas Strong,” highlighted the fact that although the CNMI is divided into islands, the local people are united through a culture that now embodies other ethnicities and bonds the communities as families.

“Our islands may be tiny on a global map, but our hearts are big in comparison when it comes to lending a helping hand and building things to make them last longer and stronger,” Atalig said.
