(DPS) – On Sunday, July 5, 2020, at about 4:57 p.m., the CNMI Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a 911 call reporting a distressed swimmer that slipped and fell into the waters at the infinity pool in Asteo, Saipan.

At around 5:35 p.m., the DPS impact rescue boat arrived and conducted a search within the waters outside of the infinity pool, while DFEMS Search and Rescue Unit (SARU) teams conducted a cliff-line search for the individual.

Honorio Ricky Encabo

The caller told police that the last sight of Honorio Ricky Encabo was when he was standing on the rocks before he slipped and fell into the water. Encabo struggled to get back up as a strong current swept him underwater.

At about 7:05 p.m., search teams were called off due to low-light and will proceed again today. The CNMI Department of Public Safety highly would like to remind the public to be diligent and aware of the conditions of the water at all times.

DPS encourages the public to call 911 anytime to report a crime or an emergency. Our officers are here to help you.
