IN observance of  Pride Month, the newly organized Pride Marianas Youth will hold a three-hour Ride4Pride motorcade on Saturday, June 27.

PMY founder and president Jennifer F. Maratita, in a statement, said the Pride Month “marks the resilience, struggles, celebrations, and pride that exist within our [LGBTQIA+] community. It honors the battles that have paved the way for the progress we now enjoy while acknowledging the tremendous work that is still left for us to do.”

Registration will start at 12 noon, Saturday, at the former Kan Pacific Pool and the motorcade will start an hour thereafter and will end at the American Memorial Park baseball field.

Maratita said participants may walk over to the repainted rainbow crosswalk in front of Fiesta Resort & Spa in Garapan for photo opportunities and selfies.

But participants are also asked to observe social distancing guidelines as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These include wearing face masks and staying six feet apart when not inside a vehicle.

While parade floats are not allowed, Maratita said guests are encouraged to decorate their vehicles with environmentally friendly decorations while limiting the use of balloons.

“We are inviting the community to join our celebration,” she added.

Over 100 youth participants are expected to join the motorcade, she said, as she urged all partners, agencies, organizations, and businesses to set up waving stations throughout the motorcade route.

“Our youth participants would greatly appreciate symbols of support,” she said.

Maratita noted that Pride Month is a global celebration of the global LGBTQIA+ community.

“We urge our community to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights,” she said. “Your continued support is crucial for a loving and accepting environment especially for our LGBTQIA+ youth.”

She added, “In spite of extreme adversity facing members of the LGBTQIA+ community, we must come together to love…and thrive.”
