THE House of Representatives unanimously adopted House Joint Resolution 21-10 supporting the passage of H.R. 6800 or the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act.

Authored by Rep. Ivan Blanco, H.J.R. 21-10 states that the HEROES Act “will greatly assist the people of and government of the CNMI.”

U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan said the CNMI would receive about $2.14 billion within 30 days of the enactment of the HEROES Act, which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives last month. It remains pending in the U.S. Senate.

He said the funds proposed for the CNMI would “cover costs or replace foregone revenues not projected on January 31, 2020 stemming from the public health emergency, or its negative economic impacts.”

Blanco’s joint resolution states that the CNMI and other U.S. territories “are in dire need of financial assistance to overcome this pandemic; help restart our economy and protect the health and welfare of our people.”

The CNMI Senate is expected to adopt the joint resolution in its next session.
