MARIANAS Visitors Authority Board Chairwoman Marian Aldan-Pierce on Wednesday announced that MVA managing director Priscilla Iakopo’s contract has been renewed for another year.

“We have decided that maybe it will continue until such time that the board decides what to do,” Aldan-Pierce said, adding that the decision of the board was unanimous.

Aldan-Pierce said the board will discuss its recommendation and other matters with Iakopo who, for her part, thanked the board for giving her the opportunity to continue serving MVA.

“Thank you all for trusting in me,” she added.

She also thanked the staff members of MVA, saying they are the “backbone” of the agency, which won’t be able to perform its duties without them.

“We all know tourism is our number one economic driver,” she said. “I will continue to do the best that I can.”

Iakopo said she will also continue to seek guidance and advice from the board.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, in an interview, said he was pleased that the MVA board extended Iakopo’s contract.

“I’m pleased with her performance and I know that we can do a lot of great things despite this unfortunate situation,” he said, referring to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Iakopo was appointed in May 2019 to succeed Chris Concepcion who resigned from his post to work for the administration.
