ABOUT 90% of restaurants on Saipan have re-opened, according to the chairman of the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force, Warren Villagomez.

“Based on the reports from the [Bureau of Environmental Health], these establishments have been complying with the policies,” he said. “They make sure that they have social-distancing lines, putting shields on their cashier counters and putting markers to direct the flow for entry and exit points.”

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres on Monday announced that the Community Vulnerability Level had transitioned from Yellow to Blue.

Under Level Blue, dine-in businesses are permitted 50% occupancy limit, while businesses that are not restaurants or bars will be allowed 75% occupancy in accordance with the supplemental regulatory guidance from CHCC-BEH and the Department of Public Works’ Building Code.

“We have come to this level because of the community’s efforts,” Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Chief Executive Officer Esther Muna said as she urged everyone to continue observing social-distancing, and to wear a face mask while maintaining good hygiene.

Muna said several establishments that have been evaluated met the Level Yellow guidelines.

“For those that are in Yellow, it will be much quicker for us to do the assessment [to get them to Blue]. Rather than going through the whole process, you are limiting it to those additional requirements so it will be easier for those that have already been checked,” Muna said, adding that more people will be on the ground to conduct inspections.

Muna is also asking consumers to make sure that  stores or establishments are meeting the guidelines.

She noted that most restaurants are ServSafe-certified which ensures that they follow the guidelines when serving  customers, especially during a pandemic.

“A lot of them [business establishments] have been using this system already and it is basically in line with what we are using as well,” Muna said.
