COMMONWEALTH Utilities Corp. Executive Director Gary Camacho said the power division is seeking contemporary technologies to improve the reliability of its power system on Saipan and Tinian.

The project will focus on the implementation of intelligent switching technologies, he added.

These will “minimize the duration of unscheduled power outages during normal operations and following typhoon events,” Camacho said.

By minimizing the duration of power outages, CUC will “maximize its ability to maintain power delivery services to its electric customers and collect revenue to cover administrative and operational expenses,” he added.

He said CUC will tap a reputable U.S. engineering design company to provide a detailed scope of work and a cost proposal for the project.
