THE Saipan mayor’s office is still looking forward to the completion of the animal shelter project.

Special assistant to the mayor Henry Hofschneider said they are collaborating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers which will provide the additional funding needed to construct a new animal shelter in As Lito.

He said the Federal Emergency Management Agency has already finalized the structure of the project “so there’s no requirement to conduct another study.”

The mayor’s office received $324,000 from FEMA after the animal shelter in Lower Base was damaged by Typhoon Soudelor in Aug. 2015.

For the new animal shelter project, the Department of Public Works has already completed the architecture and engineering design.

The proposed animal shelter will have 40 kennels for dogs, 10 for cats and 10 more for sick dogs.
