GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres has nominated Edward C. Deleon Guerrero, former Speaker Ralph S. Demapan and former Rep. Mario Taitano to serve as members of the Commonwealth Casino Commission representing the Third Senatorial District.

The nominations require the advice and consent of the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation chaired by House Floor Leader John Paul Sablan.
If confirmed, Deleon Guerrero, Demapan and Taitano will fill the seats to be vacated by Juan M. Sablan, Jose C. Reyes and Alvaro Santos whose six-year terms will expire on April 30, 2020.
The commission’s two other members are Ramon M. Dela Cruz of Tinian and Diego M. Songao of Rota. Deleon Guerrero has been the commission’s executive director since Jan. 2015.
The governor said he and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios have confidence in the nominees’ ability to “carry out the mandates of the board in governing and managing the Commonwealth Casino Commission.”
The administration will provide the delegation copies of each nominee’s résumé, statement of financial interest, police clearance, drug test receipt and result.
The delegation chairman, House Floor Leader John Paul Sablan, said he can either refer the nominations to the Judiciary and Government Operations Committee which will then conduct a public hearing; or he can call for a delegation session to discuss the nominations as a Committee of the Whole.
Either way, the chairman said, the delegation will look into the nominees “thoroughly.”
