THE Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has provided its personnel with protective materials amid the Covid-19 outbreak, CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho said.

But getting new supplies will be a challenge for CUC “like [for] everybody else on island,” he added.

“This could be [an] ongoing situation so we want to ensure that we have available supplies.”

Meanwhile, he said, CUC continues to provide the utility services needed by the community.

“We have people on standby as CUC continues to operate its wastewater, water, and power systems,” Camacho said as he thanked the CUC personnel who are reporting for work at its facilities.

Utility services must not be interrupted, he said, adding that sanitation is very critical in preventing the spread of Covid-19.

“Water must be available, and the power plants must continue to operate,” Camacho said.

Some CUC offices are open, including the billing and customer service sections, but customers have to comply with the sanitation protocol, he said, adding that the public utility requires social distancing and hand sanitation.

“We have lots of employees here and we want to make sure these employees are protected along with the customers,” Camacho said.
