THE CNMI 2020 Census reported on Tuesday that although there is an online census available to most states, it is not available to residents of the Commonwealth, American Samoa, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

CNMI Census said, “The 2020 Island Areas Censuses will be 100% paper-based and led by Census-takers. Census-takers will be conducting in-person interviews and not online.”

The census will also not be conducted over the phone. “The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands may occasionally receive 2020 Census stateside advertising on national television, radio, and social media. However, the 2020 Island Areas Censuses is 100% paper-based with census workers conducting in-person interviews.”

CNMI Census said until further notice, all its operations are on hold, in compliance with Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ Executive Order 2020-04 or the Declaration of Public Health Emergency for Covid-19.

The data collected for the CNMI 2020 Census can be utilized by government agencies, private sector, public sector, and all citizens for numerous purposes, including determining whether it is necessary for legislators to redistrict. The population count also helps to determine how to allocate federal grants, such as those related to Federal Emergency Management Agency relief funds.
