ONCE again, Tinian Jr./Sr. High School Stallion Battalion joined the CNMI MSU JROTC Drill Competition. This year, the event took place on March 7, 2020, at Saipan’s Koblerville Gym from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Tinian High School Stallion Battalion and the Marianas High School Dolphin Battalion co-hosted the event.

Unarmed Color Guard

The brigade formation was commanded by MHS’s Cadet Maj. Mariah Katelyn Gapasin. Tinian Stallion Battalion’s Cadet 1st Sgt Marisa King and Cadet Sgt. Ryan Nuera were the narrators for this event. Marianas High School’s Color Guard Team (C/Maj. Mariah Ashley Gapasin, C/Capt. Tyrell Ngewakl, C/Capt. John Laborce, and C/Lt. Col. Daryll De Luna) presented the colors whilst their choir (C/Capt. Tyrell Ngewakl, C/1st Sgt. Eejai Metran, C/Cpl. Shaina Dimalanta, C/Sgt 1st Class Jaibelle Nelmida, and C/1st Lt. Precious Epan) sang the national anthem and CNMI hymn. Dr. Boni Pangelinan, an associated education commissioner, gave her welcoming remarks, followed by special remarks from a former JROTC instructor, retired Army Sgt. Maj. Herman Atalig, the current Board of Education vice chair.

The drill phases that followed were Inspection, Color Guard (sabers and rifles), and then Regulation and Exhibition, which were alternating between armed and unarmed.

The Stallion Battalion took home eight brilliant trophies to Tinian and placed in the following categories:

3rd Place Unarmed Color Guard

2nd Place Unarmed Inspection

3rd Place Unarmed Regulation

3rd Place Unarmed Exhibition

3rd Place Armed Color Guard

3rd Place Armed Inspection

2nd Place Armed Regulation

4th Place Armed Exhibition

Outstanding job to the Tinian Stallion Battalion! Even though they didn’t place first on any event, it’s the effort that counts. Great work to all the schools that participated in this year’s drill meet. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to partake in events like these. You build character and greater bonds with your team.

The Stallion Battalion would like to extend a huge appreciation to the MSU for helping THS and MHS make this event successful. We also thank everyone that came out to watch and support the drill teams. A big “thank you” to Capt. Jim Burke for providing and handling the generator, Sgt. 1st Class Lujan for the tables and chairs, as well as Ms. Fausia Dela Cruz for allowing the CNMI Drill Teams to utilize the Koblerville Gym. Also, SSHS SAI CSM Basa for clearing the facility at its conclusion.

Hooah!

Hopefully, someone can rectify the gym’s electrical problems for the next drill competition. The Stallion Battalion would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Army Reserves with 2nd Lt. Camacho and the NMC ROTC cadets that came down to evaluate the Drill Meet.
