ZONING Board Chairman Mariano Taitano said he has no plans to remain on the board once his term ends next month.

“As soon as my term expires on March 28 I will step down because I need to get a job,” he told his colleagues during a recent meeting.

He said he is a retiree who has to renovate his house that was damaged by Super Typhoon Yutu.

A former House member, Taitano said: “I want to be honest with you. I am interested in working for another government board or agency — somewhere where I can be paid.”

Zoning Board vice chair Joe Ayuyu Jr. asked Taitano to reconsider his decision, adding that Taitano, as chair, can remain on the Zoning Board while working for another government agency.

“I just want you to be open to that possibility — if not, we respect your decision,” Ayuyu told Taitano.

The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation confirmed Taitano’s reappointment to the Zoning Board in 2018.
