THERE has been a slight increase in the price of fuel, but the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. will not increase its power rate, CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho said.

He said the fuel adjustment charge will remain $0.18803 per kWh in February.

CUC has been notified by Mobil Oil Mariana Islands about the slight increase in the Mean of Platts Singapore or MOPS monthly pricing from July 2019 to February 2020, Camacho said.

However, he added, the increase did not equal or exceed a 4.5 percent differential of the average per gallon cost of fuel.

The fuel adjustment charge or FAC is one of the two components for CUC’s electric kwh rate and is used to purchase fuel.

The other component is the base rate which, since April 17, 2014, remains $0.0210 per kWh for 1 to 350 kWhs of power consumption for residential customer; $0.1130 for commercial customers; and $0.1240 for government accounts.

Pursuant to an order issued by the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission, CUC is required to adjust the FAC when the MOPS monthly pricing equals or exceeds a 4.5 percent differential of the average per gallon cost of fuel used in the calculation of the current FAC.
