COMMONWEALTH Utilities Corp. Executive Director Gary Camacho said as requested by Mobil Oil Marianas, CUC will install a fuel pipeline to the temporary power generator provided by Aggreko.

He said without a pipeline Mobil will not be able to provide the fuel that Aggreko needs, especially during inclement weather.

Without Aggreko’s power generator, there will be “severe issues” with CUC’s power supply, Camacho said.

In 2008, he said a similar arrangement was made by CUC with Aggreko which provided power to the island while CUC repaired its electric system.

This time, Camacho said CUC will install a 600-foot fuel pipeline to where the temporary 15-megawatt power generator of Aggreko will be set up in Lower Base. It is expected to be online by Jan. 25. The contract with Aggreko will allow CUC to overhaul and repair its power engines.

Mobil, Camacho said, is willing to pay for half of the pipeline installation cost. He did not mention an amount.

Aggreko’s $1.5 million contract is for 90 days, but Camacho said CUC management has asked the board to approve a 90-day extension because it turns out that 90 days will not be enough to repair and/or overhaul all the engines.

An extension will require an additional $1.3 million, but it will also “reduce the kilowatt hour rate of Aggreko,” Camacho said.

The CUC board has authorized the release of $6 million for the repair and/or overhaul of the power engines, and a temporary electric supply.
