THE 1st Wahoo in the Marianas fishing competition is slated for Feb. 29, 2020 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

IT&E and Mobil Oil Marianas partnered with the “Tasi to Table” Youth Fishing Club, the youth program under the auspices of the Saipan Fishermen’s Association, to hold the event.

SFA community outreach official Wayne Pangelinan said the tournament was planned and organized by students from Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, Kagman High School, and Da’ok Academy.

The registration will be held on Feb. 28, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Smiling Cove Marina.

The registration fee is $100 per boat (captain and one angler) and $25 for each additional angler.

There will be cash prizes for the top three competitors.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Youth Fishing Club, Pangelinan said.

On Tuesday, IT&E donated $3,000 to the tournament.

SFA chairman Gene Weaver thanked IT&E for its continuing support of the SFA, a non-profit organization.

“Whatever we raise from the tournament will go back to our youth program so we can continue providing opportunities for kids in the future,” Weaver said.

Today, Jan. 16, SFA will hold a mixer event for businesspersons starting at 6 p.m. in the Chambre Bar of Fiesta Resort & Spa, Pangelinan said.

On Jan. 18, at 9:30 a.m., Saipan Fish & Tackle will be giving out rod & reel combos and shirts to students at the Head Start office on Capital Hill.
